EMBER NILE

The Haute Couture Isis Study · Volume II

Inspired by Couture & Flavor

Chocolate · Dates · Honey · Toasted Sesame

Nile Ember began with a black-and-gold gown from Zuhair Murad’s Spring–Summer 2020 Haute Couture collection, inspired by the goddesses and queens of ancient Egypt. Its radiating embroidery suggested a movement I could carry from fabric into feathers, becoming the protective wings of Isis.

That visual inspiration found its sensory expression in chocolate-date mud cake, salted honey ganache, and a subtle toasted-sesame accent. Chocolate and dates bring depth and caramel richness, while honey adds aromatic warmth and sesame lends a gently toasted finish.

The charcoal exterior and flowing gold details echo the flavors within. Inspired by Isis’s associations with protection and renewal, Nile Ember explores warmth held within strength—connecting couture, sculpture, and flavor through one story.

Symbolism

Protection. Renewal. Devotion.

Isis’s outstretched wings became the heart of Nile Ember: an expression of protection, devotion, and the strength to nurture renewal. Her composed gaze and expansive silhouette convey a presence that is both powerful and sheltering.

Inspired by the gown’s radiating embroidery, golden lines gather at her torso and flow through her wings, bringing couture and symbolism together through sculpted form.

The Artistic Focus

A Gentle Gaze

The eyes became the emotional center of this piece. I wanted to capture the quiet awareness of a gentle giant through the shape of the eyelids, the surrounding folds, and small painted reflections.

Fine fur textures contrasted with the smoother muzzle, while layers of hand-painted color and airbrushed shading gave depth to the face. Each detail served the same intention: to make the expression feel alive.

The Build

From the carved cake to the final highlights, the form developed through four stages.

01 · Establishing the Form
Carving the cake established the long neck, facial proportions, and distinctive silhouette.

02 · Refining the Surface
Modeling chocolate shaped the features, ears, and horns. Sculpted fur and smoother areas introduced contrast across the surface.

03 · Building Color
Burnt Umber and Chocolate Brown gel color established the giraffe’s warm undertones, with Super Black adding depth to the markings and shadows. Moss and chocolate brown tones grounded the piece in an earthy setting.

04 · Bringing in the Light
Airbrushed layers of Chocolate Brown and Lemon Yellow added warmth, softened transitions, and highlighted the giraffe’s sculpted textures.

Umber Savannah—an exploration of perspective, texture, and quiet presence.

Black Tea & Cardamom White Chocolate Ganache

The aromatic starting point for this study: black tea and cardamom infused into cream, then brought together with white chocolate. Its rounded sweetness and fragrant spice connect the flavors within to the warmth of the finished sculpture.
