Welcome to My Creative World
I’m Erin V. Smith, a sculptural cake artist and recipe developer based in the Boise area. Through Sugar Inspired, I work with cake, sugar, chocolate, and edible paints to give imagination a tangible form.
Realism draws me in, but expression keeps me there—the turn of a face, the depth of a painted eye, the contrast between delicate features and weathered texture. I’m interested in the feeling those details can hold and how sculpting and painting can bring it to life.
Creating through the senses is how I approach my work across different mediums. A familiar melody can bring back a memory; an aroma can suggest a place; a texture or flavor can become the beginning of a story. Nature, culture, and personal experience shape these impressions, giving me something to explore with my hands.
I began as a self-taught baker before moving into a professional pastry career, developing original recipes and creating desserts and wedding cakes for local restaurants and event centers. Professional commitments, family, and other creative pursuits took me away from sculptural work for a time, though my love for it remained.
Returning to my private studio has given me space to explore that love again. Today, I’m working on personal projects and selected collaborations, allowing curiosity, care, and a little play to guide the process.
LU’EMBER is my evolving creative studio, where that curiosity extends into botanical writing, crafting, and creative workshops. Exploring different materials enriches the way I see and create, and those discoveries often return to my cake artistry. Beginning with the giraffe, Volume II brings these connections into focus through botanical ingredients, sensory inspiration, and the choices that shape a piece from the inside out.
Sharing is part of this chapter, too. Through the gallery, I invite you to look beyond the finished artwork and explore the inspiration, symbolism, and artistic process behind each piece. A complimentary Ganache Guide and selected base and infused ganache recipes offer practical ways to explore flavor and consistency in your own kitchen.
For me, creativity offers connection, room to grow, and moments of healing. Artists across cultures and disciplines continually inspire me, and I hope this glimpse into my world offers a little inspiration for your own.
Welcome—I’m glad you’re here.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about my work, please feel free to reach out.
May you leave a little sugar inspired—and ready to create something of your own.
Warm wishes,
Erin
