The Tiger Study

Inspiration

Inspired by sight

This piece began with the idea of seeing through darkness—the elusive presence of a tiger revealed through its eyes. I wanted the gaze to draw you in before the surrounding details emerged.

India inspired the flavor direction, bringing together dark chocolate and deep layers of spice to echo the intensity of the sculpture.

Symbolism

Rarity. Individuality. The courage to be different.

The tiger’s elusive presence became a way to explore stepping outside the familiar. I wanted to capture the quiet confidence of something rarely seen, expressing its individuality without hesitation.

The Details

Sculpted entirely from cake and chocolate, the tiger takes shape through carving, modeled detail, and layered edible painting. Dark chocolate and warming spices carry the character of the piece into its flavor.

Artistic Focus

This study centered on building depth through many layers of paint. Hues of blue and green formed the undertones before successive layers of black and brown developed the dark fur.

The eyes evolved along the way, beginning light and deepening into dark orange. That change brought warmth and intensity to the gaze, creating the contrast that gave the finished tiger its presence.
