Tiger Cake

Inspiration & Symbolism

Individuality. Hidden Strength.

The Courage to Be Seen.

This piece began with the idea of seeing through darkness—a tiger’s presence revealed first through its eyes. I wanted the gaze to draw you closer, allowing the sculpted textures and subtle colors to emerge gradually from the shadows.

For me, the black tiger represents the courage to remain distinct. Its elusive presence became a way to explore strength beneath the surface and the beauty of stepping beyond what is familiar or expected.

India inspired the flavor direction: dark chocolate Kahlúa spice cake infused with cinnamon and cayenne. Richness, warmth, and lingering heat echoed the intensity I wanted to capture in the finished piece.

The Artistic Focus

Character Beneath the Color

Before painting, the expression had to take shape in chocolate. Working closely around the eyes, muzzle, and brow, I refined the contours and sculpted fur to create depth and movement.

The challenge was to hold both strength and sensitivity in the face, giving the finished gaze a presence that color could deepen.

The Build

01 · Sculpting the Form
Cake and chocolate established the silhouette, while modeling chocolate shaped the facial features and layered fur. The unpainted surface reveals the sculptural details that would later catch light and shadow.

02 · Painting Beneath the Darkness
Hand-painted and airbrushed undertones introduced blues, greens, and warmth across the face. These early layers created variation beneath the black and brown finish, allowing traces of color to remain within the shadows.

03 · Revealing the Gaze
Successive dark layers brought depth to the fur and markings. The eyes evolved from a lighter shade to a deep, vivid orange—the final contrast that brought the original vision into focus.
