Volume 1

M O D E R N C AK E S T U D I E S

The Modern Cake Studies explore the foundations of flavor composition, moisture balance, botanical infusion, ganache systems, and refined cake assembly through a collection of connected recipe compositions developed alongside the sculptural studies.

Centered around structured 4 and 5-layer modern cakes, the recipes introduce the systems behind the work itself—where flavor, atmosphere, texture, and structure begin evolving together through the lu’ember process.

Each composition includes guidance for both modern cake and sculptural adaptation, demonstrating how recipes may be scaled, strengthened, and modified to support larger artistic projects while maintaining flavor continuity throughout the work.

Current Volume I compositions include No. 1 — Peach Ember, No. 2 — Citrus Veil, and No. 3 — Velvet Ember. Together, these recipes explore fruit-forward, botanical, and atmospheric flavor profiles while introducing the foundational techniques that support the broader lu’ember and Sugar Inspired ecosystem.

Designed as studies rather than standalone recipes, each composition remains connected to a corresponding sculptural work—allowing flavor, structure, atmosphere, and artistic inspiration to evolve together through one unified creative system.

Vol. I — Modern Cake Studies

Explore:

• Foundation Guide

Foundational systems exploring ingredients, moisture balance, structure, baking fundamentals, and the core methods supporting the lu’ember process from within.

• Ganache Guide

Understanding ganache through texture, balance, stability, whipped systems, finishing techniques, structural applications, and modern cake development.

• Modern Cake Study

Layered cake compositions exploring soaking systems, assembly, support methods, controlled structure, atmosphere, and refined finishing through modern cake development.

• Elevated Cake Recipes

Connected recipe compositions exploring flavor infusion, botanical integration, fruit development, restrained spice layering, atmosphere, structure, and refined sensory balance through modern and sculptural adaptation.

Built upon the foundational systems introduced throughout Volume I, the evolving studies demonstrate how flavor, texture, moisture, acidity, warmth, structure, and atmosphere begin shaping composition from within—creating the foundation from which both modern cakes and sculptural works continue to evolve.
