Kong Cake
A Study in Capturing Emotion
Inspiration & Symbolism
Betrayal. Isolation. The Cost of Being Misunderstood.
In looking back, my interpretation of Kong began with the sadness within his story—the isolation of being different, the cruelty of being exploited, and the betrayal of trust. I wanted to explore how that suffering becomes resistance, giving his anger an emotional history.
For me, Kong’s story holds a longing for connection met with fear and cruelty. Through cake, sugar, and chocolate, I wanted to give that pain a tangible form and invite a closer look at the being so often called a monster.

Sadness & Frustration in Chocolate
My focus was to capture the sadness and frustration in Kong’s expression.
Wounds, cuts, and an injured mouth make his suffering visible. His furrowed brow and watchful eyes hold the tension between hurt and the determination to fight back.
Painting began with lighter undertones to establish the highlights before the final dark layers were added. Building the color this way gave depth to the sculpted textures, allowing light to define his features and reveal the emotion within his face.
