My name is Erin V. Smith, and I'm the creator behind LU'EMBER and Sugar Inspired.

I'm a sculptural sensory artist, former executive pastry chef, and recipe developer specializing in freehand cake and modeling chocolate sculpture, expressive hand painting, and sensory-driven flavor composition. My work explores the relationship between observation, flavor, sculptural expression, symbolism, and the senses—approaching artistry as an experience rather than something simply to be seen.

My creative process begins long before anything is made. Inspired by nature, wildlife, culture, music, and quiet observation, I explore how ideas can be translated into dimensional form through craftsmanship, atmosphere, and thoughtful artistic expression.

One experience, in particular, profoundly shaped the direction of my work. While creating a sculptural cake for a young girl who had lost her sight, I began to understand that meaningful artistry extends far beyond what we see. It was a reminder that texture, aroma, flavor, atmosphere, and human connection can be just as powerful as visual form. That experience continues to influence every piece I create—not simply as something to be viewed, but as something to be experienced.

Largely self-taught before building a professional career in pastry, my creative journey has been shaped equally by artistic exploration and culinary experience. Years of recipe development, flavor composition, sculptural practice, and freehand modeling continue to influence the way I approach realism, movement, and dimensional form—where flavor, craftsmanship, and artistic expression become part of the same creative language.

LU'EMBER is the creative philosophy that supports this evolving body of work. Sugar Inspired is one artistic expression of that philosophy through edible sculpture. Through future publications, workshops, and other sensory-inspired creative disciplines, I hope to continue exploring the relationship between observation, craftsmanship, nature, creativity, and the senses.
